This is Texas

The Consortium brought DJ Kentaro down to play a few years ago. I had seen a lot of good turntablists at that point, but my mind was pretty much blown on the spot just watching what this DJ could do.

Fast forward to 2008, and I’m casually browsing Erol Alkan’s Forum. Hidden away in one of the threads was a link to the following video. I clicked watched and again my mind was blown. So I present…

DJ Kentaro and two copies of that perennial Geek Chic favourite Benjamin Theves‘Texas’.

Taken from the Enter The Newground DVD.

GCS get tragically hip…

Posted by admin on Aug 8, 2008 in Uncategorized | 0 comments

Quick plug for something rather fab if you like a bit of boompty! To herald the launch of their new Tragic Magic label, the TM lads are hosting a night down here at our local. And they’ve asked us to do a bit of warm-up for them. So we said yes. Be rude not to really.

Like lots of record-playing types, we’re lucky enough to get new bits and bobs sent to us for playing out now and again, sometimes good, sometimes great, sometimes bloody awful.

Just sometimes we get something very exciting indeed. Like just maybe the new single from Rex The Dog, who’s canine beats have been a fixture in the Geek Chic CD wallet since he first wandered slobbering onto the dancefloor, sniffing the other technopop producers’ nether regions and generally make a bit of a nuisance of himself on the legs of the clubbers

The track is what we’ve come to expect – all pristine synth riffs, stuttering kick drums, maximal production, albeit with a slightly more song-based vibe, and naturally theres a crop of ace remixes, but the real icing on the cake is the attached press release.

Y’see, usually these things come with an A4 sheet of prosaic blurb designed to get us all exciticated before we even get the CD into the car. No such thing for our fave doggy-chops though. Nope, instead we’re treated to the following delights:
