Ships in the Night

Never ones to invent an excuse for a party, March 2010 sees the Geek’s celebrate their fourth birthday as DJ partners, Remixers and All-Star Buckaroo champions (2007 – Bournemouth West League 2). Their original plans for an evening of Stock Car Racing were sadly curtailed when Lee Geek remembered he can’t drive. So instead join them as once again they take over Sixty Million Postcards with a fistful of tunes, some matching headphones and an unrivalled sense of timing. Entry is free, but dancing is compulsory.

Sixty Million Postcards, 19 – 21 Exeter Road, Bournemouth, BH5 2AF
Friday, March 19th 2010 // 20:30 – 02:00 // Free Entry

2010: Geek Chic Soundsystem

2010: Geek Chic Soundsystem

Since the introduction of Sixty Million Postcards ace new Indie Saturday nighter ‘No Fun’ we (Ian and Lee) have made a small sideways step. Now we play our patented formula of ‘electropunkfunkdiscopop for people who should know better’ on a Friday instead. And we have been having a blast.

For those of you that have not popped their heads into Bournemouth’s best loved boozer for a while, you may be in for a surprise. Sometime in December a man with a van and some screwdrivers arrived and left behind some spanking new Funktion One speakers by the dancefloor. So now all those shiny new records sound even shinier and even newer and all the more likely to make you join the dancing masses.

So come down, have a cider with us and shake away those February blues…

Rockin,

Nish Nish, The Castle Ec1 and ES Recordings Heaven and Hell Weekender

Posted by lee:geek on Oct 20, 2009 in DJ Sets | 0 comments
Nish Nish, The Castle Ec1 and ES Recordings Heaven and Hell Weekender

Quality London Party Brand Nish Nish, Premier Musical Boozer The Castle EC1 and critically acclaimed, fast rising record label Electric Sheep Recordings combine for the first Heaven And Hell Weekender/Festival.

Across two floors and two nights the weekender will be a journey from punkfunk to new wave, to disco to indie to house, taking in techno and acieed, with a large measure of unheard future classics.

Friday night sees a debut appearance from Geek Chic Soundsystem. Originally the South coast, they are now firm favourites in the capital, with remixes already under their belt for The Long Blondes, They Came From The Stars (I Saw Them), Heads We Dance, We Smoke Fags and Boy + Girl, and fans as diverse as Mark Moore, The Freestylers and Erol Alkan.

Berlin favourites Jungs and Technik come from a similar angle but with a slightly different twist. Owning a 7 inch collection of nu wave, krautrock and cosmic classics that is second to none these enigmatic Berliners know their onions, having graced the decks of some of Berlin’s hippest hangouts.

Likewise hosts Ben and Smit, whos unique eclectically minded and critically acclaimed genre bending and block rocking Nish Nish parties, have graced the floors of some of capitals finest establishments for the past five years, featuring the likes of Colin Dale, Hannah Holland, Jon Carter and too many others to mention.

Nish Nish Cohort Mitch Davis, whose label has lately been creating tsunamis, with the backing of luminaries such as Xpress 2, Laurent Garnier, Agoria and Ivan Smagghe, will be getting all misty eyed as he helps the lads dust off the classics in the upstairs 86-92 house classics room…..aaaaaah, i think I am welling up now, you know it makes sense.

Saturday will be a slightly deeper affair, with Nish Nish/Electric Sheep and The Castle EC1 being joined by some of our regulars from along the way and a super huge surprise guest who we aren’t allowed to announce just yet for an eclectronikal ram jam session. Needless to say the i’s will be crossed and the t’s will be dotted as per ;) . Deep house, Tech House, Classic house and Disco, and all points in between from the ressies and the guests on saturdays

Throughout the weekend there will also be a 3d Horrormatronic cinema, themed fancy dress, quality food and drinks that aren’t at scary prices, best of all it is all Free…

Expect Freeks, Geeks, Fit Birds, Fags, Old Shoomers, Nu ravers, Classic Gems, Future Classics and hopped up kids with jaunty haircuts who know whats good for ‘em. See you at the bar.

Nish Nish, The Castle, Electric Sheep and Heaven and Hell Weekender…Live The Dream

As Always,

Big Love, Big Kiss, Ben Nish Nish x

October Mix for Diesel:U:Music

Posted by admin on Oct 4, 2009 in DJ Sets, Radio | 2 comments

We were recently asked to contribute a mix for the Diesel’s ultra-hip U:Music radio thingy. Given the calibre of the other acts on the playlist we couldn’t really say no. Besides, Ian Geek was well overdue putting together a new hotmix, so it seemed like the perfect opportunity to get some new mixy goodness out there.

It’s quite an eclectic mix – with a mix of old and new tracks that we feel deserve airing on everyone’s dancefloors – all smushed together with the silky-smoothe precision you’ve every right to expect.

Anyway, preamble over… get your ears around this! And if you like it, a bit of mucking about with the SoundCloud thingy below should allow you to download it for ongoing ipod pleasure :)

Oh, and do feel free to leave feedback either here or on the SoundCloud page!

Gino Soccio – Dancer
Bottin – No Static (Club Version)
Beni – Fringe Element
D. Ramirez – Satur8
Siriusmo – Let Me In! (Geek Chic Extended Edit)
Knightlife – Crusader
Manhead – Birth Death Work School
Spirit Catcher – High Control
Solaris Heights – Midnight (Padded Cell Remix)
Felix Da Housecat – We All Wanna Be Prince (Paper Faces Remix)
Mugwump – Die Nacht Ist Kuhl
The Phenomenal Handclap Band – You’ll Disappear (Munk Remix)
Ajello – Over The Sky (Reverso 68 Remix)
Shazam – Pool Party 2009 (Headman Remix)
Depeche Mode – Everything Counts (Absolut Mix)
Alex Gopher – Handguns
Datarock – The Pretender (Holy Ghost Remix Dub)
DJ T. – Dis (Solomun Remix)
Au Revoir Simone – Another Likely Story (Aeroplane Remix)
